Fraudulent Billing: Dr. Slagh's Battle for Transparency in Healthcare

Dr. Darla Slagh alleged that Joseph House, Inc. engaged in fraudulent Medicaid billing practices, including billing for sessions that were not performed, possible double billing for urinalysis services, and non-compliance with supervision requirements.

After Dr. Slagh was terminated, she brought a False Claims Act retaliation claim. The court concluded that her internal reports of suspected fraudulent government billing were sufficient to constitute protected activity and to put the employer on notice of the nature of her concerns. The court denied the motion to dismiss, allowing the retaliation claim to proceed.
